The Poem "Where I Am From"
“Where I am from”
I am from love and hate
I am from laughter and tears
I am from wine and bread
I am from tacos and carne asada
I am from my mother who’s dark, beautiful and short
I am from my father who is white and tall
I am from my dogs who bark constantly through the night
I am from the bright sunlight in the sky to the blackness of the starry night.
I am from the palm trees blowing in the wind to the frosty snow mountains
I am from the southern beaches and endless sunny skies.
I am from dreams with orange skies and purple clouds and dancing birds.
I am from who knows how many aunties and uncles with millions of cousins.
I am from many books sitting on my bookshelf to a million DVD on the living room floor.
I am from my room where I drown the world out with my loud music.
I am from sadness to happiness in an instant, when my friends and family are near
I am from smarty-pants and goofballs who just love to have fun
I am from shy and outgoing to quiet and loud
I am from a world that will constantly be in motion but I will always be true.
